Marvelous weekend in Tahoe

Good morning!
Hope you all had a wonderful first weekend of fall! As I mentioned Friday, The Hubby and I got to getaway for a little vacation just the two of us. It was definitely a marvelous weekend so I’m linking up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday to share!

MiMM

We are lucky to live just a little over an hour away from Tahoe. The Hubby goes all the time during the winter to snow board but since I’m not much of a snow buff I don’t get the chance to go all that often. Especially during the warmer months. We will definitely make more of an effort to come up again in the fall as it was gorgeous!

We arrived at The Ritz Carlton in North Shore and I have to admit I immediately thought of The Shining as we drove up the hill to the large property in the woods.  A little creepy but that feeling faded as soon as we checked into our room and saw our view.

Ahhh :-)

Then we headed down to the Backyard Bar area where we ordered a few cocktails then played some lawn games they had. Corn hole, bocci ball, lawn darts and connect four.

So fun!

Then we went indoors to the arcade where I continued my winning streak beating the hubby at a few fun games. We are totally competitive with each other but in a good way :-)

We relaxed a bit in our room then cleaned up for dinner at The Manzanita Grill downstairs.

The lighting wasn’t that great but we brought a bottle of wine from our last Napa trip to drink over dinner. We started with a cheese and charcuterie plate then ordered the fried cauliflower which was amazing!

I stepped out of my box and went with the lamb shank but didn’t love it. Good thing there was plenty of cauliflower!

Saturday I woke up early of course because my internal clock never lets me sleep past 7:00. So I headed downstairs to relax, enjoy some Blue Bottle Coffee and catch up on some work.

After an hour or so The Hubby joined me and we both ordered some breakfast then sat outside enjoying the fresh mountain air.

Then it was off for a hiking adventure!

After recommendations from the valet and concierge we decided to take a short 4 mile hike to Spur view. We were so glad we did!

Talk about an amazing view.

We just sat and soaked it in for quite a while.

It was pure bliss. We then ventured back down the trail and into Truckee for lunch.

The Hubby wanted to take me to a burger place he had been to before that was featured on Diner’s, Drive-ins and Dives called Burger Me.

I got a bison burger in a lettuce wrap and a nice refreshing Crispin :-)

There was lots of talk about going to the lake, going to the pool, taking a nap… But we opted to shower then head into North Star Village to check it out.

Unfortunately it was quite dead since it’s the off season so there wasn’t much going on. We did however find a Tapas and wine bar where we enjoyed a few sampler flights while chatting.

We headed back to The Ritz after that because The Hubby wanted a rematch at Corn Hole.

I kept my championship title :-)

We love to meet other people when we travel and did just that when we went to check out the indoor bar for a cocktail. We met a super nice couple who had just gotten engaged the day before! So cute and brought back great memories of our own engagement. We chatted it up with them for quite sometime before ordering some food in The Living Room restaurant.

A Salmon Cake for me and a chicken sandwich for The Hubby.  My phone was dead so no pictures :-(

We just felt like relaxing so we headed up stairs, got in our PJ’s and ordered a movie. The Other Woman which was pretty funny.

Sunday I again woke up early and went to check out the gym.

A nice 45 minute treadmill hill interval workout followed by this dumbbell workout and a relaxing yoga stretch on the patio.

Great way to start the day!

After cleaning up we headed back to the cafe for coffee then sat out by the fireplace reading and relaxing.

We were sad to check out but excited to come home and see our little man! On our way him we stopped in Truckee again for another Food Network Featured restaurant called The Squeeze Inn.

It was featured on Bobby Flay’s Throwdown show a few years ago. After waiting for nearly 45 minutes we were starving and had to share an order of the chocolate covered bacon.

photo 2

Verdict… Just okay. Too much chocolate for me.

Then I ordered the King Crab Benedict which had fresh King Crab meat sautéed in butter, with poached eggs and hollandaise over tomatoes. Again, just okay. I’m just so hard to please 😉

photo 3

We made it home early enough for me to get grocery shopping and food prep done. Which included roasted pumpkin to make homemade pumpkin puree!

photo 5

Seriously so easy and very cost-effective. These sugar pumpkins were $2.00 each and made over 6 cups of pumpkin puree. Pumpkin puree in a can is $2.50 and has 2 cups. 6 cups for $4.00 is a much better deal!

While I was cooking and prepping food for the week in the kitchen, someone suddenly got quit.

He’s never just passes out like this so he must have been exhausted from a long weekend.  He wouldn’t let me move him either so he slept there for an hour or so.  Pretty funny :-)

Such a great weekend and I’m feeling refreshed and ready for the week! I’m continuing to aim to keep my meals as close to Whole30 as possible this week. I felt much better by the end of last week so know it’s making a difference.
