Before we had The Love Nugget, The Hubby and I enjoyed going on vacation. Whether it was a quick trip to Tahoe or a much longer vacation to Mexico we enjoyed our time experiencing the world together.
So when we got pregnant we vowed that we would continue to travel together as much as we could. It’s a chance for us to reconnect and enjoy being alone as a couple. Don’t get me wrong we LOVE our son and we enjoy traveling with him as well but it’s very important to us both that we remember to focus on us as a couple rather than just as parents, partners and friends. What better way to do that than to getaway for some hubby wifey time as we like to call it
Which is just what we were able to do this past weekend on a quick trip to Napa.
We are pretty lucky to have such an abundance of wonderful places to visit close by. Wine country definitely being one of our favorites. Not only is it breathtakingly beautiful but it’s filled with an abundance of good food, great places to stay and of course, delicious wine!
We began our trip with a stop at Oxbow Market in the heart of downtown Napa.
This was our first time visiting here and we loved browsing the cute, artisan shops and trying to decide where to indulge our tastebuds. There was just so much to choose from!
We then headed to Domaine Chandon to drink some bubbly!
Because what doesn’t say romance like some sparkles
From there we had no plans so grabbed a map and drove through the vineyards down Silverado Trail making a pit stop at Stagg’s Leap Winery.
They just opened their new tasting room which had gorgeous views of the mountainside and delicious wines to taste. This Artemis Cab was our favorite!
From there we decided to drive back south to check into our hotel for the evening. Although it was far from hotel stature, this place was huge!
The Meritage Resort and Spa sits just at the beginning of the Napa Wine Region and boasts 322 rooms, two swimming pools (one family one adult only), three whirlpools, several outdoor fire places, bocce ball court, hiking trails and much more!
From the moment we walked into the main entrance we felt right at home
The setting was comforting, the feeling was calm, and the people were so inviting. As they should be when you check into a hotel
We headed up to our room to check out our digs which were perfect!
What doesn’t say romance like a plush, king size bed We lucked out and got a room with a gorgeous view of the vineyards,
We could have parked it right there and not left for the rest of the afternoon but decided to head out and tour the property.
Starting with the fitness center!
You can’t take me anywhere without a stop into the fitness center.
Although The Hubby enjoys it too
After that we headed outside to visit the wine cave and tasting room.
Located just behind the main building the Estate Cave houses the Spa, tasting room and a large entertainment room for wedding receptions or parties.
The tasting room had some delicious wine and we were happy to see a bottle of their Cab back in our room to enjoy on the balcony after tasting it in the cave. So good!
On our way back to our room we walked around a bit more taking in all that Meritage had to offer.
Warm and cozy sitting area’s with built in fire places were scattered throughout the property.
We also stopped into their famous Crush Ultra Lounge where they have so many fun things to do!
Especially for the men Football, a bowling alley, beer, pool, air hockey and more! So while the women go to the spa the men can hang out in here
We hoped to play a game of bowling but the lanes were full. Which Im sure didn’t bum out The Hubby too much since football was on. Men and their sports!
We had reservations for dinner at the Meritage restaurant Sienna so headed upstairs to get ready for dinner after a bit.
Upon being seated we were delivered a glass of bubbly from our server, Rafael.
They had won me over already with that move
Sienna sources high quality meats, seafood and produce for the award winning executive chef to create signature dishes. We spent a few minutes browsing the menu before deciding on a 1/2 order of oysters to share,
the Sienna trio for me with sole, scallops, pork belly and fresh vegetables,
and the slow braised lamb osso bucco for the hubby,
Both were delicious!
After we talked about going to the Crush Lounge to play some pool or a game of bowling but opted to head upstairs, put on comfy clothes and relax in front of an old movie. I blame our exhaustion on the time change but it could be that we’re just old too!
The next morning we had hoped to sleep in but of course I was wide awake at 6:30 The Hubby just loves this! We lounged around then decided to grab some coffee in the hotel cafe, Blend.
All their coffee is Fair Trade and their to go cups/containers are all compostable. Score!
They also had a cute little gift shop area where ou could purchase some local treats or staples.
After we were caffeinated we headed out for a walk up the trails through the vineyard,
I just love vineyards this time of year!
Gorgeous colors and you can see in the distance a few faint hot air balloons. Someday I want to do that!
This statue at the top of the trail was huge and had the most intricate detail. Along with this grape crusher the view looking back was pretty awesome!
Gorgeous!
After heading back, getting dressed and packing up it was time to check out. Although I definitely wanted to stay and enjoy more of the resort! Even though it’s always great to come back to my little man these hubby, wifey getaways are so important to us and so much enjoyed! This one was especially awesome as we loved being able to take a short drive to a wonderful resort that truly takes care of their guests. We’ll definitely be heading back to visit again soon and if you’re in the area, I highly recommend you do as well!
