Okay so I know it must seem like we drink a lot with all my wino posts. The past few months we’ve just had quite a few wine events and trips that have been so much fun! However, we don’t drink much during the week if at all so are okay with splurging a bit on the weekends. Plus until I’m preggers I’m going to enjoy it while I can
It just so happens we got to enjoy another fun wine trip this past weekend in Napa. So I’m joining Katie and sharing a bit about our marvelous weekend getaway!
The Love Nugget went to his grandparents house for the weekend so we jumped at the opportunity to have a kid free happy hour at a new restaurant, Cibo 7 in Roseville.
We both sipped on Kentucky Mules which are basically Moscow Mules but with whiskey instead of vodka.
Then shared a few of their small plates,
A crab cake topped with two quail eggs and meatballs with a fennel-yogurt cream. So good but we both decided they were a bit overpriced.
We came home before it was dark so we took a road soda and the pups out for a walk
Saturday morning we got on the road bright and early to head to Napa!
Glow green juice from Liquidology on the way
We checked into The Meritage then called an Uber to take us to the Napa Wine Train for a fun adventure. The Meritage offers free shuttles into downtown Napa but we had just missed it.
The Hubby and some of his coworkers were given gift certificates for the Napa Wine Train for Christmas so we planned a weekend adventure with some of our good friends.
I had heard both pros and cons about the wine train but everyone we talked to said it’s something fun to experience at least once.
A little while into our trip we were served an appetizer plate. They were very considerate to my request about having gluten-free and brought rice crackers instead of bread.
The train goes up through the Napa Valley, stops close to Calistoga, then turns around and comes back the same way. Once we reached Calistoga, we were taken back to the dining car where we were served our lunch.
I chose the seared ahi tuna with veggies. It was delicious!
For dessert I went with the fresh fruit plate,
Perfect ending to the meal
We returned to Napa around 2:45 and walked up the street to a winery that Michelle, from The Meritage, recommended we try.
When we had checked in I stopped at the concierge desk and asked for a few recommendations. She thought we would really enjoy the wines at Mark Herold and boy was she right! We all LOVED the wine and chocolate pairing that they offered and appreciated the two for one deal she gave us as well.
We grabbed an Uber back to The Meritage where we freshened up then popped into their estate cave, Trinitas tasting room.
Fun that they have a tasting room right there on the property and offer some yummy tastings
Also fun that they treat you to a bottle of Trinitas wine in your room upon arrival!
Thanks Meritage!
We hung out and chatted for quite some time in the Crush Lounge before freshening up for dinner at Sienna. But… I forgot my phone in the room so didn’t snap any pictures. We shared a bottle of champagne, some oysters, pork belly and a flatbread. Then we headed back to Crush Ultra Lounge to go bowling!
It was a lot of fun and I actually did pretty good!
Sunday we woke up to a bit of a gloomy day.
I had hoped to relax by the pool
and maybe pop into the spa but we decided to head to Oxbow Market for breakfast.
No champagne for me though, just green juice Oh and a slice of gluten-free cinnamon toast with sunbutter, bananas and strawberries!
I don’t usually do a lot of gluten-free products but Cate & Co is an all gluten-free bakery and this just sounded too good. It was good but way too sweet with all the honey added to it.
The best part of course was coming home to my Love Nugget though!
After a weekend filled with food I don’t typically eat and wine I’m ready to clean it up and detox a bit. Lots of greens and protein!
